Jørgen and Nanna Ditzel

Jørgen and Nanna Ditzel
Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) and Jørgen Ditzel (1921-1961) were Danish designers. They met at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. In 1946, they started their own design studio. Like other designers of the time (Henrik Sten Møller, Borge Morgensen and Verner Panton) Ditzel’s designs are typically Mid-Century Modern. They produced a number of mid-century modern iconic furniture together until Jørgen’s death in 1961. This includes the famed Mater Ocean furniture range.
Nanna continued their design studio alone, designing new creations. Mater partnered with Dennie Ditzel, custodian of their design legacy. To this day they explore the archives for designs suitable for eco-friendly production. Of course this is what led to the creation of the “Ocean” outdoor collection. It features a light structure with slats and metal frames. The collection utilises ocean plastic waste, honouring the Ditzels’ legacy. The Ocean Collection supports SDGs 12, 14, and 17. They reduce plastic waste and promote responsible consumption and production. Consequently this, protects life below water, and fosters new partnerships for global goals.
Not only this but, Nanna Ditzel most notable designs are the Trinidad Chair and Ditzel Lounge Chair. These are today manufacture by Danish furniture makers Fredericia. Her other famous designs include jewellery, the Nanna Ditzel Desk, Chair and Nanna Ditzel High Chair.
