Defined by its linear form, the BK11 Lounge Chair draws influence from Cubism. The robust wooden structure provides stability, housing an ergonomic seat that offers a relaxed posture for comfort. Designed by Bodil Kjaer and expertly crafted by Carl Hansen from organic materials to create an ergonomic lounge chair. Originally conceptualised in 1959, the age of this piece is a testament to its timeless design. The wooden frame composes of two large squares that function as both legs and armrests, delivering a striking aesthetic.

Cushion upholstered in water-resistant Sunbrella fabric
Cushion available in charcoal or canvas
Use a dampened, soft, non-abrasive, lint-free colourless cloth to wipe the entire surface of your wood, moving in the direction of the grain.
Dry the wood using a second non-abrasive cloth. Remember to wipe in the direction of the wood grain.
You do not need to polish the wood as part of your regular maintenance, but polishing can restore the wood’s natural shine if it begins to look dull.
Never use wax-based polish or ammonia-based cleaning products on your wood.

Does the BK11 Outdoor Chair come with cushions?
As standard, the Carl Hansen BK11 Outdoor Lounge Armchair by Bodil Kjaer does not come with cushions. Made with water-resistant Sunbrella fabric, the BK11 cushions (available to purchase separately) come in, Charcoal 54048 or Canvas 5453 colourways.
What is Bodil Kjær famous for?
Bodil Kjaer is a Danish architect and professor of architecture and design. Kjaer has made significant contributions to Scandinavian Modern design styles. Iconic pieces of furniture such as the Karakter Bodil Kjaer desk (coined "The most beautiful desk in the world") and the Carl Hansen BK outdoor collection.
What maintenance does Carl Hansen's Outdoor BK collection require?
Made from solid high-quality FSC-certifiedteak the BK11 Chair is very durable and weather resistant. The natural oils in teak wood also protect it from rot and insects. Untreated teak (pale light brown in colour) will change to a silver-grey over time. Whilst this is normal if you want to keep more of the original colour you can oil it. Untreated teak is also prone to discolouring when wet, for example, ring marks from drinks. If it's the oiled teak version, be sure to re-oil before the wood starts to look dry and pale. Covering and regularly cleaning Carl Hansen outdoor furniture will preserve it further, stopping dirt and algae from discolouring the surface.
Should I cover my Carl Hansen Outdoor Furniture to protect it from the weather in the United Kingdom?
The weather in the UK is particularly hard on garden furniture. The sun will also discolour all materials from wood to rattan, metal to plastic. Covering Carl Hansen outdoor furniture will preserve the original colouration for as long as possible. This will defend the BK11's solid wood frame from the elements. Protecting teak (oiled or untreated) with covers will massively slow the ageing process.
Does the Bodil Kjaer BK11 require assembly?
Yes, the BK11 Chair requires basic assembly. The elements that make up the BK11 consist of a backrest, seat, cross strut and two armrests. Assembly is a straightforward process, using an Allen key and sixteen screws (of three lengths) to fix the elements together. Building Kjaer's BK11 Chair may require two people as it weighs approximately 19kg (similar to two car tyres).
