Veneered backrest
Use a dampened, soft, non-abrasive, lint-free colourless cloth to wipe the entire surface of your wood, moving in the direction of the grain.
Dry the wood using a second non-abrasive cloth. Remember to wipe in the direction of the wood grain.
You do not need to polish the wood as part of your regular maintenance, but polishing can restore the wood’s natural shine if it begins to look dull.
Never use wax-based polish or ammonia-based cleaning products on your wood.

How is the CH36 Chair made?
Carl Hansen makes the CH36 Chair by hand in Denmark. They cut and sand each of the thirteen solid pieces of oak or beech to shape. After hand-sanding and glueing each of these elements Carl Hansen applies an optional range of finishes to complete the frame. Finishes include soap, lacquer, oil, white oil, smoked oil and Carl Hansen colours. The skilled craftsmen then weave a natural paper cord seat around the frame, completing Hans Wegner's original masterpiece.

How durable is a natural paper cord seat on a chair?
Papercord seats last for many years with minimal care and maintenance. If you plan on using your papercord chair regularly, it is important to vacuum the cord regularly to prevent dirt and dust from building up and causing the cord to break down prematurely. Additionally, avoid placing sharp objects on or near the cord, as this can also cause damage. With proper care, your papercord seat should last for many years to come!
How can I tell if my CH36 Chair is real or a fake?
To tell if your CH36 Chair is a real or replica, you can check for a few things. First, look for the Carl Hansen & Son logo on the chair. This will be on a metal plate at the back of the underside of chair. If it's not there, it's likely a replica. Another way to tell is by checking the construction of the chair. Real Carl Hansen & Son chairs are made with high-quality materials and craftsmanship (no unsightly cuts of wood, or bad joins), so if the chair feels flimsy or poorly made, it's probably a fake. Finally, you can ask an expert at Olson + Baker. Our team can help you determine if your CH36 Chair is authentic or not.
Are CH36 Chairs by Carl Hansen hard to keep clean?
The CH36 wood frame will require occasional dusting unless it's the soaped oak version. The soaped oak version will need soaping two to three times per year. Paper cord weave seats need little maintenance and will last for decades. Keep dust free and if you would like to clean the seat deeper, you can wipe it with a tightly wrung soft cloth with a neutral, colourless soap solution.
