A 21st century classic, Christian Dells designs have become synonymous with contemporary styled spaces. The Kaiser Idell Luxus Table Lamp uses the practical profile of traditional clean lined geometry and combines it with the sculptural simplicity to create this modern formed masterpiece.
The original Bauhaus design provides a warm direct light from its elegantly shaped dome, with a swivel joint for functionality. The term “Idell” is a play on the word “idea” and designer Christian Dell’s last name. The “Kaiser” part of the name is a reference to the original manufacturer Gebr. Kaiser & Co. It is from the contraction of these terms the Kaiser idell series got its name.

How was the KAISER idell series designed?
The KAISER idell series was designed by Christian Dell in 1926, when he began sketching lamps. The design was ahead of its time and featured a distinctive shape with an articulating arm that allowed for adjustable positioning.

The Kaiser Idell Table Lamp has a total height of 42.5cm (16.7in) and consists of two distinct parts: the shade and the base. The shade has a diameter of 28.5cm (11.2in), while the base has a diameter of 19.4cm (7.6 in). The lamp also weighs 3.8 kg (8.4lb), including its 200cm (78.7in) cord length for easy placement on any table or desk surface.

Fritz Hansen manufactures the Kaiser Idell Luxus Table Lamp using a combination of steel or brass. The shade/base has a gloss finish, which is either powder coated or wet painted in either high-gloss or matt. The chrome-plated lamp elements are made from silver-soldered brass, while the top of the swivel joint is embossed with 'ORIGINAL KAISER-idell'. The end result is an elegant table lamp that combines both form and function.

Christian Dell was a German silversmith and designer. From 1922-25 he worked as a foreman of the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar where he was the man behind a highly innovative and pioneering style of design. The Bauhaus occupies a place of its own in the history of the 20th century culture; architecture, design, art and new media. As one of the first colleges of design, it brought together a number of the most outstanding contemporary architects and artists. Beginning in 1926 Dell sketched lights, often for the lamp factory Gebr. Kaiser & Co.
