Flemming Lassen
Renowned for his designs, Flemming Lassen was a Modernist Danish architect and designer placing a big focus on functionality and minimalism. Born in 1902, in Copenhagen, he was inspired by the Bauhaus artistic movement and his original designs still resonate today. Drawing much of his inspiration from architect Mies van der Rohe, his craftsmanship and naïve expression set him apart. Together with Arne Jacobsen, Lassen designed the Søllerød Town Hall in a classical modernistic style. Additionally, he completed a number of cultural centres and libraries including the Randers Cultural Centre in the 1960s, and public libraries in Sweden, Herning, Hvidovre, and Hobro in the 1970s.
Lassen ventured into various areas such as furniture and lamp design, always focusing on simple, clearly defined lines. His work with his brother and architect, Mogens Lassen, produced notable designs. Products from his designs are still available such as Flemming Lassen tables and chairs. The Tired Man armchair, designed by Lassen is one such product. The Solbjerg Church in Denmark and the Radiohuset in Copenhagen both bear Lassen’s mark. Alternating between leather and velvet, the chair is a no-fuss addition to your living room. It exudes the simplicity and style that this architect was well known for. Influences in the style of his creativity are evident throughout his designs. His work is still sought after till this day!
