Designed in the 1950’s but not brought to life until 2016, the CH26 by Carl Hansen’s Hans J. Wegner is part of an iconic series of chairs. The understated features of the chair make it an elegant addition to any modern living space.

The wooden frame has multiple cross-struts making it exceptionally stable, with a papercord seat and arched backrest providing comfort. Looking at the clean aesthetic of the piece, it is difficult to believe its concept is over 65 years old, with its shape still as relevant as ever. Closely resembling the CH22 chair, this piece draws inspiration from its Scandinavian design heritage.

Use a dampened, soft, non-abrasive, lint-free colourless cloth to wipe the entire surface of your wood, moving in the direction of the grain. Dry the wood using a second non-abrasive cloth. Remember to wipe in the direction of the wood grain. You do not need to polish the wood as part of your regular maintenance, but polishing can restore the wood's natural shine if it begins to look dull. Never use wax-based polish or ammonia-based cleaning products on your wood.residue.

  2. All Carl Hansen dining chairs embody Scandinavian Modern design principles. Hans Wegner's signature design style; traditional joinery techniques, organic forms and the use of natural materials. Dining tables such as the CH338, CH327 and CH339 all value this same ethos and so make a great match.   3. What is Danish paper cord?
  4. A material commonly used to make weaved seats and backrests of Scandinavian Modern chairs. Typically made in rush style, wrap or basket weaving patterns the three-layer natural paper cord is very strong. Danish Paper Cord can last decades, 35-40 years when well maintained! Among the most famous examples of paper cord chairs are the CH24 Chair, CH26 Chair, J39 Chair and CH25 Chair.
  5. Is the Carl Hansen CH26 a good dining chair?
  6. Yes, the CH26 dining chair is an excellent dining chair. Its organic shapes, upright back and hand-woven seat combine to create one of Carl Hansen's best dining chairs. The flex in the natural paper cord seat makes sitting at a dining table or desk for long periods easy. The backrest's large flat wood veneer plate is comfortable and supportive of a large portion of your back. And finally, the generous armrests sit at 67.5cm so will slide under most dining table tops. The CH26 Pairs beautifully with any Carl Hansen Dining Table.
  7. Are Carl Hansen CH26 chairs hard to keep clean?
  8. No, the Danish paper cord seat doesn't really need maintenance other than occasional vacuuming to keep dust free.  On the rare occasion, the seat requires cleaning, use a damp, soft cloth and natural transparent soap to wipe down. The Soap, Lacquer, Oil, White oil, Smoked oil and Black Walnut or Oak frame finishes also require little care. Again, occasional dusting and wipe clean with a damp cloth if needed. The soaped oak CH26 Chair will sometimes need re-soaping if it becomes pitted/dirty over time.
  9. Where is the CH26 Chair manufactured?
  10. Wegner's CH26 Chair is, to this day, made by the master carpenters of Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen and Son. The chair is available in oak or walnut. Its frame is solid wood and the backrest is form-pressed veneer. Carl Hansen cut, glue, sand and finish the incredible CH26 Chair using time-tested joinery techniques with basic hand tools. The final and possibly most beautiful element of the chair is its spectacular paper cord seat.
